Forward Role is dedicated to creating and delivering a variety of flexible programmes promoting inclusion and equality.
Forward Role is an organisation, which whole- heartedly believes that young people can be empowered and inspired by the use of drama techniques.
Background
"quality theatre and workshops in which the participants can become actively engaged"Gillian Crawford,
Forward RoleForward Role was established in 2004 by Gillian Crawford (see creative team). She believed there was a gap in the level of support offered by an element of drama companies delivering education and outreach in schools. Forward Role endeavours to create quality theatre and workshops in which the participants can become actively engaged rather than merely be subjective spectators. This method is influenced by Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal (see method).
Training Support Structure
She also began to realise that teachers were often not fully assisted on the topics, themes and techniques of incoming projects. It is for this reason that she created and implemented a methodology which presents teachers and youth workers with a training support structure.
This offers a Continual Professional Development before, after and during a project. The support does not merely offer lesson plans but also offers the full support of a drama specialist who will deliver each element of a programme. This has the inherent value of developing a new area of professional capability and enhanced approaches to creative learning across the curriculum.
