Remote/ Hybrid

£45,000 - £50,000

Forward Role have collaborated with a well-established legal service to progress their data-led strategy to the next level. As part of a group-wide data transformation programme, this legal service provider are recruiting for a Data Engineer. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a programme of work that is focussed on transforming the data landscape and becoming an industry leader in the legal services sector.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for monitoring, developing and optimizing our data pipeline architecture, as well as designing and delivering technical solutions for cross-functional teams.

The ideal Data Engineer will be able to…

  • Understand the need for efficient data delivery and proactive monitoring of multiple different environments.

  • Work alongside engineers, analysts and information & data architects to help ensure optimal data delivery across a range of projects.

  • Ensure that appropriate security procedures and principles are in place and adhered to.

  • Liaise effectively and proactively with other internal teams to understand requirements and goals.

  • Recommend ways to improve performance, efficiency and reliability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supporting the management of infrastructure used for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a variety of source systems using SQL, SSIS and other Microsoft tools.

  • Daily monitoring of data warehouse, ETL process and associated error investigations.

  • Ensuring that dashboard data is provided effectively using SQL Server tools.

  • Produce and supply data securely to internal and external teams.

  • Co-ordinating and managing releases to the production environment.

  • Liaison with internal teams to ensure performance optimisation of databases and associated infrastructure.

  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality and flexibility in the company’s data systems.

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements such as automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and ensuring scalability.

  • Design, build, test and maintain data management systems, making sure they meet business requirements and user needs along with company and industry standards.

  • Proactively engage with DBA team to ensure that user access to the data warehouse is secure and compliant.

  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

  • Work with multiple stakeholders, and in particular architects, analysts and engineers (including 3rd parties).

  • Collaborate with multiple business and IT functions to ensure the delivery of structured and unstructured data to meet business requirements

  • Provide and support visualisation of data using IM approved tools

  • Participate in a programme that will deliver a scalable solution for how data is collected, stored, accessed and managed in the firm.

Technical Skills

  • Experience within large and complex corporate environments

  • Knowledge of data warehouse development techniques, methodologies and architectures

  • Experience working with relational databases, T-SQL, SSMS, SQL Server 2008r2 and above, SSIS 2008r2 and above.

  • Data problem solving/investigation experience with root cause analysis and incident management.

  • Experience of developing T-SQL queries, SSIS packages, data pipelines and data sets.

  • Experience of end to end data lifecycle from OLTP database to data warehouse, through to visualisation tools, in order to resolve issues, answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Knowledge of configuration / change management tools and processes e.g. Azure DevOps, Git and Redgate toolkits.

  • Exposure to different testing, development and project management methodologies
