Forward Role is proud to be working on a retained basis on this new and exciting role for a rapidly growing student property operator with accommodation across most major cities in the UK. Their values and ethos start and finish with the student, putting their safety, welfare and comfort at the top of their agenda. The Head of Marketing will be responsible for leading the marketing function, growing the team over time and being an important part of the senior leadership team. As a business, they don’t follow trends, they like to create them so you’ll be the driving force behind innovation, challenging the status quo and employing new technology to communicate and engage with the student population.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of the marketing strategy
  • Working with your high performing team, ensure the plan for each property is constantly evolving and becoming more engaging
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure that every bed is sold through targeted and creative campaigns and related sales activities
  • You will lead the marketing activity for new property acquisitions and developments ensuring that knowledge of new and emerging markets is obtained early in the process
  • Social media will play a large part in student engagement making best use of each platform
  • Develop key strategic partnerships from across the university/education landscape to promote the brand and drive the business commercials
  • You’re the brand guardian, owning its growth and development, ensuring all consumer facing marketing communication is aligned to the brand ethos and tone of voice
  • Own the marketing calendar of highly engaging retention and acquisition plans for each location
  • Lead the CRM strategy ensuring they effectively segment data and send personalised communications to relevant audiences driving best in class conversion
  • Leadership of external marketing agencies that support the business ensuring they deliver the agreed proposition to market
  • Ensure full analytics on campaign performance and ensure the business is continually looking at ways to optimise campaign performance and incorporate into future activity
  • Own the annual budget, always looking at ways to ensure activity is timely and impactful to encourage sales conversions. As a budget holder, you will be responsible for the budget delivery and will regularly input to routine reforecasting activity
  • Champion ideas among your team and the wider business, be open to fair critique of campaigns and messaging, seek input from all levels across the business
  • Make the brand front of mind when students are deciding which accommodation to choose for their forthcoming year

Person specification:

  • Educated to degree level in a related discipline / CIM or higher level of qualification is desirable
  • Experience of marketing to a student / youth audience is very important
  • Solid understanding of B2B and B2C Brand/Marketing/Campaign marketing
  • An experienced Senior Manager in a marketing environment with prior team management responsibility in building, development and training
  • Social media experience across all the different platforms is a “must”
  • Led a marketing function in a sales focused business
  • A genuine passion for marketing with a strong awareness of brand and new consumer trends
  • Clear understanding of the evolving digital marketing landscape the residents are part of and able to deliver strategies to reach them
  • Commercially savvy, you have a sales bias as a marketer
  • Creative, innovative and ambitious
  • Highly organised, methodical and efficient
  • A great team player who builds solid, meaningful relationships
