Online Merchandiser

The Online Merchandiser will be used to working in a fast-paced ecommerce environment, with a commercial attitude and excellent merchandising skills.  You will be responsible for merchandising of a selection of categories on the website and app, with the purpose of driving strong commercial performance across these categories by optimising product once it is live on the site. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Commercial responsibility of the web merchandising of selected categories, ensuring strong performance KPI’s with key focus on improving funnel metrics to achieve product and category targets
  • You will be responsible for delivering the merchandising strategy using a range of techniques, including image optimisation, ranking, filter optimisation, navigation, taxonomy and categorisation optimisation, search and product recommendations
  • Using data and insight to drive decision making to support category performance, including detailed understanding of funnel metrics and onsite behaviour
  • Reporting back in daily huddles on funnel metrics and identifying ways to improve performance
  • Resolving on-site issues and speed bumps which are impacting performance within your areas
  • Working with the UX Manager to support AB Testing of key onsite elements and pages
  • Detailed understanding of customer behaviour within your categories and aligning the customer journey to maximise performance from visitors
  • Understanding of merchandising best practice within the competitor and retail landscape
  • Working with the trading manager to understand overall category performance, and opportunities to help define priorities
  • Work with Trading Manager to understand promotional impact of key categories to category and product performance
  • Supporting new collection launches, campaigns and seasonal activity
  • Support on maintenance of category pages to ensure ‘freshness’, as well as identifying and moving under-performing products
  • Understanding customer feedback of category shopping experience to steer merchandising and optimisation decisions
  • Providing detailed recommendations and actions to achieve targets

Skills required:

  • 3 years “hands on” ecommerce and retail experience within a merchandising role
  • Experience using ecommerce CMS to manage core merchandising fundamentals, including category ranking, navigation and taxonomy, onsite search, landing pages, product attributes and naming conventions, product recommendations
  • Excellent understanding of customer shopping behaviour
  • Passion for retail ecommerce
  • Commercial and analytical
  • Team management experience, including progression and succession planning
