Technical Architect 

Blackburn, Lancashire

£45K - £60K DOE

Forward Role are working with an exciting online Interiors brand who are looking to bring a Technical Architect into their Development team based in Blackburn. The Technical Architect will be responsible for mentoring the more junior members of the team whilst delivering IT strategies. If you are a hands on C# coder with experience in SQL Analysis Services, Cubes, PowerBI and SharePoint and you are looking to accelerate you career and inherit more senior responsibilites, then this role is for you!

What you will be doing:

  • Defining and designing the solutions required to deliver the IT Strategy.

  • Defining and ensuring technical governance is followed by the development team.

  • Technical mentoring and coaching of the development team comprising of; in-house, near-shore, 3rd parties and contractors.

  • Running experiments and creating proof of concepts to test project assumptions.

  • Creating the framework and foundations for the development team, i.e. Data First and DevOps.

  • Working closely with the IT Delivery Manager to estimate work, from high-level t-shirt sizes to planning sessions.

  • Working as a mentor for apprentice developers and student placements.

  • Creating team challenges, such as hack-days, that would add value to the team and/or business.

  • Hands-on coding in the following technologies….

    • Microsoft .Net Applications. (C#)

    • SQL Analysis Services, Cubes & PowerBI.

    • SharePoint Online

What we need from you: 

  • Experience in designing scalable and resilient enterprise solutions using Micro Services and/or Enterprise Service Buses.

  • Technical mentoring of developers; in-house, nearshore, contractors and 3rd parties.

  • Very broad experience in software development, on the Microsoft stack, ranging from Coding, DevOps and QA.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.

  • Evangelist for Lean, Kanban or Agile methodologies.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • The ability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • A constant desire to learn about software development by attending or participating in conferences, meet-ups and events.

  • Focused on delivering business value and not gold-plated solutions.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience as working as both a supplier (consultancy or development house) and a client (in-house IT operation).

  • Prototype tools such as Balsamiq, Visio, etc.

  • ALM and road mapping tools such as Visual Studio, Jira, aha!, etc.

  • Experience of Dynamics AX or Sharepoint.

  • Experience of Data Analytics such as Data Warehouses, Cubes, PowerBI etc.
