In the first of our latest blog series - Marketing & Digital Leaders, Rachel Wheeler chatted with Stacey Judson from Elegant Resorts and If Only, to discuss some of the challenges she’s faced in her career and the advice she would give to women who aspire to be in a role of power.
Please can you provide an overview of your role?
I'm Head of Operations & Business Transformation within the travel industry - I lead the strategy and integration of the back office and booking systems for Elegant Resorts & If Only, whilst driving best practise and increase productivity through efficiencies of both operations.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career?
Moving into a tech environment was tough, as it's an area where women are highly un-represented. Initially it was very daunting being in a room full of male Leaders, but it helped build my confidence, made me realise I'd earned my right to be there and I was an asset to their team, as I helped them develop a more inclusive department that supported women in tech.
Do you think there are enough women in prominent positions? Why?
In the past I would have said no. Most organisations I have worked at prior to my current company, it was predominantly male who ran the company. Over the last few years, I have seen an increase in women in prominent positions. It seems that organisations are recognising the value that women in leadership positions can have. Diversity in leadership is key for a business!
What advice would you give to women who aspire to be in a role of power?
Keep going, if that's your ambition in life then don't stop until you achieve your goals. For me, I would always look at the structure of a company, do they have women in those leadership roles, who could be your mentor? Find an organisation who is willing to invest and help you get to the top!
