Cloud Engineer (National Security)
Location: Multiple UK locations across all compass points
Hybrid: High-side working required (hybrid pattern)
Salary: £70,000 to £130,000 depending on experience and SFIA grading
Clearance: Must meet criteria for the highest levels of UK security vetting
The Opportunity
You will be joining a rapidly growing engineering consultancy operating at the centre of the UK’s secure technology ecosystem.
Their National Security division continues to expand following a series of programme successes and long-term work already secured across multiple clients. Despite that growth, the culture still feels closer to a product engineering team than a traditional consultancy.
Engineers here are trusted to shape technical direction, not just deliver against contract milestones. The team is collaborative, pragmatic and focused on building high quality engineering capability inside secure environments.
The feedback from the engineers we have already placed has been consistently strong. People talk about supportive leadership, interesting technical challenges and a genuinely positive working environment.
The organisation also has a strong reputation with senior leadership teams across the National Security ecosystem, giving them access to complex programmes and long-term work.
Other reasons engineers choose to join include:
• A slick and respectful interview process
• Flexible hybrid policies that are better than many organisations in this space
• Clear investment in learning and development
• A collaborative engineering culture without unnecessary hierarchy
• The opportunity to influence how secure cloud platforms evolve
With new programmes continuing to come online, the team is still growing and this is an excellent time to join.
The Role
You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for designing, building and evolving secure cloud platforms used in complex high-side environments.
In practice, that means working closely with both product teams and end users to translate complex operational requirements into scalable, secure and maintainable cloud infrastructure.
Across their programmes you will typically be working with technologies such as
AWS, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD tooling, Linux and configuration management tools like Ansible.
The exact stack varies between teams and projects but what matters more than matching every tool is your engineering mindset.
The client places far more weight on how you approach problems, how you collaborate with others and how you communicate with stakeholders than on whether you have used a specific framework before.
You will be trusted to contribute across the full lifecycle of cloud platform delivery. That might involve helping design infrastructure, building deployment pipelines, improving automation, or working with users to evolve platform capabilities as requirements change.
Engineers here are expected to think broadly about systems, reliability and delivery rather than operating inside narrow technical silos.
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must meet the criteria required to obtain the highest level of UK security clearance. This typically requires sole UK nationality and long-term residency in the UK.
