Cloud Engineer (National Security)
South East, England
Cloud Engineer (National Security)
Level SFIA 4 to 5 (Senior)
Multiple UK Locations (NS hubs)
Hybrid pattern with high-side site attendance
£70,000 to £130,000 depending on level/experience
This team is quietly building something interesting inside a major National Security programme. They’re early. They’re growing. They want Cloud Engineers with NS expeirence who can actually communicate as well as they build.
You’ll be part of a small, product-focused group that sits between users, delivery teams, and some deeply complex environments. If you like being the person who can translate what’s needed into what’s technically possible, you’ll do well here.
What you’ll be doing
• Automating how applications and infrastructure get provisioned, configured, and deployed inside a highly secure environment• Working as part of a multi-discipline product team rather than a “ticket-factory” platform group• Building with AWS tooling, IaC, containers, CI and automation pipelines• Improving processes, pipelines and guardrails so the whole team delivers faster and safer• Being the calm, clear communicator who can represent engineering decisions to a tricky but appreciative customer base
The tech you’ll work with
AWS CloudFormationAmazon ECSDockerKubernetesDroneCI (or similar)GitHub / GitLabAdvanced Linux and scriptingAnsibleSecurity best practice (authn, headers, container security, etc)AWS CodePipeline / CodeBuild (nice to have)
Who this would suit
• Cloud or DevOps Engineers with experience delivering inside National Security environments• Engineers who enjoy shaping early-stage technical direction (you’ll be one of the first few hires in the division)• People who prefer product-led delivery over solution-provider bureaucracy• Confident communicators who can explain decisions without puffing up their chest or hiding behind jargon
What’s non-negotiable
This work requires active clearance to be able to work within the National Security Domain to work with "the client".
Red flags
• Engineers uncomfortable being client-facing• People who want a rigid enterprise platform team rather than product collaboration
Why people join
Because you’ll help shape the technical culture from the ground up.Because it’s meaningful work, with a team that behaves nothing like the stereotypical NS solution provider.
